அவுஸ்திரேலியா மெல்பேர்னில், எதிர்வரும் செப்டெம்பர் மாதம் 26ம் திகதிசனிக்கிழமை அன்று மாலை 6 மணிக்கு, St Jude's Primary School Hall,

Victoria Tamils coordinating committee's Cultural events committee are organising a 28th death Anniversary Remembrance Day function to commemorating the sacrifice of Martyr Thileepan (a political leader of the LTTE). who began a fast for the freedom of the Tamil people in 1987. He put forward five requests to the government of India which had sent its military to the Tamil homeland. His requests included the removal of the Sri Lankan military from schools and halting of new Sinhala settlements. However the government of India remained insensitive to the requests of Martyr Thileepan. He attained martyrdom on the 12th day of his fast on 26th September 1987.
Tamil people, who lives all over the world remembers the 28th Anniversary of "Thiyaka Theepam" Thileepan, who fast to death in 1987 from 15th of Sept. to 26th of Sept. In these memorial events, Tamil people participated in the commemorations in large numbers. So, It's our turn to commemorating the sacrifice of Martyr Thileepan. Come along with your whole family and bring your garden flowers for Homage. Especially, It will be good for the younger kids to listen & see the historical sacrifice of this Young Tamil leader.

for twelve whole days you consumed neither food nor water,

we remember the strength it took and the pain we felt.
Your demands were for freedom,
a freedom we still do not have.

தன்னுடலை வருத்தி நீர்கூட அருந்தாது தன்னுயிரை ஈகம் செய்த தியாகி திலீபனின் 28ஆம் ஆண்டு நினைவு நிகழ்வு எதிர்வரும் 26ஆம் நாள் சனிக்கிழமை மெல்பேணில் இடம்பெறவுள்ளது.

ஆயுதந்தரித்து களமாடிய விடுதலைப்போராளியான திலீபன், காந்தி தேசத்திடம் தமிழீழ மக்களுக்காக நீதிகோரி சாத்வீக வழியில் போராடினான். அடிப்படையான ஐந்து கோரிக்கைகளை முன்வைத்து திலீபன் மேற்கொண்ட பயணம் எமது விடுதலைப்போராட்டத்தில் உன்னதமான அர்ப்பணிப்பாகியது.

பன்னிருநாட்கள் தன்னை உருக்கி உருக்கி எரிந்தணைந்த அந்தத் தியாக தீபத்தின் நினைவுநாள் நிகழ்வில் கலந்துகொள்ளுமாறு அனைவரையும் அன்புடன் அழைக்கின்றோம். ஆண்டுதோறும் நடைபெறுவதைப் போல் இம்முறையும் தியாகதீப கலைமாலை என்ற தாயகப்பாடல்களின் இசைநிகழ்வும் இடம்பெறும்.
